DEFINITION: Under the direction of the Water Quality Lab Supervisor, perform routine chemical and microbiological analyses on water, wastewater, and related solids and liquids in support of the efficient operations in the water and wastewater treatment plants.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES: Perform a variety of chemical and microbiological qualitative and quantitative tests of water and wastewater samples necessary to insure that plant processes meet water treatment and NPDES permit standards. Prepare glassware and equipment for laboratory use; collect samples for analysis as required. Perform mathematical and statistical calculations on test results. Maintain and repair laboratory equipment and fixtures; prepare laboratory supply and equipment order lists. Maintain chain of custody records, control charts, and quality control data. Enter test results in the laboratory computer database.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed inside most of the time. Requires occasional local travel and fieldwork under varying and extreme weather conditions. Work includes exposure to: toxic/caustic chemicals and solutions, noise, open flames, fumes, gases, solvents, oil and grease, electrical energy, slippery walking surfaces, machinery, traffic, computers and water. Eye-hand coordination is needed. Complete color vision and correctable near vision are needed for conducting and analyzing tests.
QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in chemistry and microbiology related field and one-year experience performing chemical and microbiological tests in an academic or analytical laboratory.

JOB SUMMARY: The Water Quality Analyst is a laboratory technician position responsible to collect and perform quality control and NPDES required tests on wastewater samples, calculate and log results, and prepare chemicals and maintain equipment. Work involves wet chemistry, taking water samples from rivers (both upstream and downstream), pretreatment samples from industrial users, and the wastewater treatment plant. The analyst performs required tests and prepares appropriate reports for the WPCF, and state and federal monitoring agencies. Analysts perform quality control tests to ensure test reliability as well as performing tests to ensure the wastewater treatment plant is functioning correctly. Analyst will work Tuesday through Saturday and will be required to work some Mondays and holidays to ensure coverage.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:

· Knowledge of wastewater chemistry and of standard EPA approved laboratory methods;

Job Description:
Clifton Sanitation District is seeking to fill two new operator positions with motivated, self starters and experienced full time Wastewater Utility Operators for its operations. The positions will include operation and maintenance for the existing lagoon facilities, transitioning to a new 2.5 MGD activated sludge regional wastewater treatment facility scheduled to be completed in September 2008. Duties include the operation and maintenance of wastewater collection system, treatment facilities and lift stations. Perform general plant maintenance, such as cleaning, painting, and repairing plant facilities, perform a full range of grounds maintenance duties. Maintain computerized records; prepare daily records for use in reports to various agencies and respond to emergency situations.

Position Summary:
Under the general direction of the Director of Facilities Operations, the Director for Utility Services for the University of Colorado at Boulder serves as a senior member of the section leadership team. Duties:
A Utilities Control Center Supervisor oversees the work of a three-shift, seven day-a-week Utilities Control and Communications Center and a 24-hour City of Mesa hotline which monitors the City of Mesa’s water, gas, electric, and wastewater systems. The incumbent is responsible for the supervising section personnel; overseeing the operation of the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system; evaluating operations and activities and recommending improvements and modifications to existing methods and processes; requesting and defining upgrades to the functionality and programming of the SCADA system; tracking, preparing, and administering the budget for the Utilities Control Center responsibility center; tracking, preparing, and administering the budget for the water system electrical pumping budget; projecting, scheduling, managing, and tracking day-to-day system water usage to meet the yearly water usage goals; and ensuring that work conforms to local, state, and federal governmental regulations, and other applicable rules and requirements. The employee in this class is supervised by the Assistant Director - Water through meetings, conferences, and reports related to results achieved. This class is subject to random drug and alcohol testing to comply with Department of Transportation (DOT) Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) regulations 49 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 199. This class is FLSA exempt-administrative.
REQUIREMENTS:
Any combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to four years of full-time employment in a water supply and distribution control center involving a computerized control and data system. At least one year of lead or supervisory experience.
Special Requirement(s). Must possess a Grade IV Certificate as a Water Distribution System Operator from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) by hire date. Must obtain certification as a gas system operator in accordance with 49 CFR within one year of hire date.

Water Pumping Superintendent
