Circle Friday, May 11, on your calendar. RMWEA will host its first-ever fishing derby at Pueblo Reservoir that day.

This event, dubbed "Casting for Kids," will help RMWEA raise funds to send a high school regional science fair winner and a chaperone to WEF's national science fair competition. WEF will select a winner to send to Stockholm to compete for the Stockholm Junior Water Prize.

The Casting for Kids contest will be a fun-filled social event for both individuals and the entire family. Prizes will be awarded for the greatest number of inches of fish caught in each competitive category plus one for the biggest (legal) fish caught in each category. Catch-and-release will be encouraged.

In addition to actually catching fish, excellence in lying about catching fish will also be recognized. In a free-for-all category, the best fish story (the best fishing lie) will also net the storyteller a prize. Competition is expected to be stiff here. (Bob Alberts and Wayne Ramey have already entered.)

There will be six competition categories: adult, child, and family, and whether the entrant (adult, child, or family) was fishing from the shore or from a boat.

Prizes will be awarded Friday afternoon along with food and the fishing story contest.

Amateur fishing people of all stripes are invited (sorry, no pros). Invitees include all RMWEA and RMSAWWA members plus consultants and suppliers to the water/wastewater industry.

The cost will be $50 for an adult participant, $15 for each child under 14 who enters by him/herself, or $80 for an entire family (mom, dad, and the kids) competing together.

Those who want to fish from a boat must bring their own boat. Bellyboat fishermen will count as boat fishermen.

The fishing contest will run from 7 a.m. on May 11 until 2 p.m. Check-in will be from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. Eating, lying, socializing, and awarding prizes will follow the contest. Food is included in the fee. All liars (story tellers) must enter as fishing contest participants.

Logistics are still being developed. As plans are finalized, details will be given in future issues of Rumbles and on the RMWEA web site, so stay posted.

Plan to bring the entire family to Pueblo Reservoir for a fun-filled weekend of fishing, eating, story telling, camping, skiing, jet skiing, and all-around merriment. And help make Casting for Kids a successful event.

NOTE: All Colorado fishing regulations will apply, including bag limits and size restrictions. Participants must purchase their own fishing licenses. Those who plan to camp should reserve spots in the North Marina area. Entrants must pay their own park entrance and campsite fees.
